Video Editing... Posted by Gimpdiggity on Aug 17, 2010
Hi everyone.
Again, I apologize if this should go somewhere else...but I was hoping that maybe some of you guys that put together videos of your puppets in action could share what kind of editing software you are using??
I've been putting small videos together the last couple of years with Windows Movie Maker and it's served me well...but I'm going to be putting together a specail "internet TV show" with my puppets and I want to be able to edit it a bit more than what I think Movie Maker will let me.
Any suggestions would be great!!
Thanks!!!
Jeff

If I could afford it, I'd be buying one of the Sony Vegas products. I've often used the trial versions when I needed a bit fancier editing than WMV offers, and they've been excellent.

I really like Cyberlink Power Director 8. I've only had it about 6 months so far.
I was using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate ver. 11, but it only allows 1 layer, whereas PowerDirector allows about 8 or so I think.
Which is nice if you're going to be using greenscreen.

Thanks.
I'll look into that Power Director 8. Looks like it's not super expensive on Amazon, either.
I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing green screen yet, but I definitely need something with the ability to add "graphics" over the video that I've taken...just text type graphics with some very basic images, but graphics regardless.

Yah, the Vegas stuff is supposed to be pretty awesome. A guy I work with offered to give me a copy of his, but I'm not really into having software that I didn't purchase myself...so I thanked him but didn't take it.

Good for you! So many people these days don't even think before pirating things.

Good for you! So many people these days don't even think before pirating shit.
I know what you mean. I'm not a big fan of downloading/copying things. People work hard to make that stuff available for others, and I don't think it's right to just "take" it without paying for it.

Although I mostly use Final Cut Pro these days, I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro for over 15 years and still really like it. The consumer version of Premiere is called Premiere Elements and is really good too. It costs just $80 to buy and you can download a 30 day free trial from Adobe's web site.
Blender - which is mainly a 3D program - actually has editing capabilities, although it's not the most intuitive program for video editing. It is free though!

I think people just forget that most artists don't earn a million bucks, and if they do, can afford to be ripped off.
... Anyway, not to sidetrack the thread or anything
