Hi all,

I have been trying to figure out some ball joints, but can't really find any good videos or tutorials. All of the links in this post (https://puppetsandstuff.com/archive/topic/375) are broken, so unfortunately I haven't been able to find the Gamble method/the other posts mentioned.

The only video I can find () hasn't really been very helpful, because they only show how to put the ball in, not how to connect it to the other pieces of the puppet. I'm familiar with using screw eyes, but would like something a little more elegant.

I've come to you all to ask, how the heck do you use ball joints? I really appreciate any advice anyone can give me, I'm especially interested in them for arms and legs.

Welcome Aertie to Pands.

Well in the application that he is using the ball joint you would put the dowl coming out of the top of the leg through the pelvic region.  He most likely has a method not shown where he prepares the second leg in a similar method then puts the dowl through, then glues another ball on the other end, then glues the top of the "finished" leg to lower half with the ball inside much like he did on this first leg.

I don't work in wood so can't really give you details of how that all would happen but hopefully that gives you and idea.

Have a look at this playlist.  It is something I did many years ago on how to create a ball joint connection for the head of a marionette.   Perhaps it well help some.
