Mr Jummy problems Posted by gompie on May 15, 2009
This is Mr Jummy, puppet from a commercial here in Holland.

You could get it free is you bought the cookies. The body is filled with stuffing so I want to make an insert of foam. I made a pattern of Mr Jummy without seam allowens, but draw the pattern from the stitching of Mr Jummy.

The pattern fits when I put the paper on Mr Jummy. But when I made the insert I couldn't get it into the puppet.  I tried to put it in the head but it didn't fit, it was to big. I used 2 cm foam (3/4 inches). So I stuffed him again but I want to know what I did wrong....

The foam head and body I'm going to make a puppet of the foambody now. I  Is Mr Jummy a kind of a melonhead?

You have to allow for the 2cm of the foam.  Not sure of the right amount but try a reduction of 1cm on the foam pieces.

I used a blue pen to draw the pattern on the foam, if it is wright you can see the tuck in middle of the back head. I made this pattern of a fabric puppet and the foampuppet has a very small mouthplate for an adult you have to enlarge the pattern a little bit. When I put my hand in the foampuppet, there is no place left to work with the mouth. I didn't make a pattern of the foot and leg yet. When I did that I will show you.....

If I understand it wright when you want to make a pattern for an insert, you  have to dicount the dickness of the foam from the pattern. I'm not going to do it with this one any more . But I want to know.............

I made the pattern of the foot and leg right away maybe it won't happen if I do it some other timepatroon 4

I made a small list on this one for some Dutch terms, the arm is cut twice and have 2 seams, the leg has a seam at the back only not in the front.

I found a realy great fur in my fabrics. I'm going to use that for the left over foam head and body.

another question, my kids where playing with Mr Jummy yesterday and pulling the arms and legs. I am afraid it will tear down sometime soon. Mr jummy is sawed in a factory and not that strong.  I'm going to glue arms ang legs to the new puppet is that strong enough for kids who pull it ?
Re: Mr Jummy problems Posted by puppetlady on May 16, 2009
I think wild kids could get through glue too.  I'd set some "playing with Mr Jummy" rules like "play nice or Mr Jummy gets taken away for two days"  With my kids, if they do cause damage to a plaything, I sew it up after the rip takes place.  They have to come to me and ask for help and I sew it up.  Kids learn better when they see the consequences of their actions.  If Mr Jummy is real weak, you could just make him a display only item as well.  OR Have your kids ask permisson to play with him.  My kids have to ask for permission to touch my puppets.  They know they are special and not a kid toys.  I've made them their own simple puppets and those they can be rough with.
