Ah.  I gotcha.  It's really not that much different, really.  You have a pile of stuff that you know will become something after you finish manipulating it.  It's simply a matter of taking the proper pieces and putting them into place.  Just like building a puppet.

As for filmmaking, in our little set-up, I'm the writer as well as the editor.  So I get to put the idea on paper, then we film it out of order, in various styles and points of view, etc (which is sort of like taking the pieces of a puzzle and throwing them up in the air - only we've also added more pieces), and then putting it all back together again.  I could be quite happy with the beginning (writing and creating the physical elements) and editing (putting the pieces back together again) and do without the entire middle section altogether.

So to go back to my previous statement, I think I will amend it now that I've had some time to think about it.  Filmmaking and puppetry are not necessarily two separate things (in this case anyway).  They are very much two sides to the same coin.

You're probably right. I guess I just need more practise...

No matter who we are, no matter what we do -- we will always need more practice.

Yes, I've heard that "practice makes prefect." But I don't WANT to be a prefect. Everyone looking to me to be in charge? That's no fun at all.

I once heard of an entire battery of prefects.  Talk about being in charge!

Next weekend will hopefully be the final two days of filming.  Then we move onto final editing and we've had a local musician offer to create an original score for us, which is great.  Today I put together the final set - a science lab at the Institute of Science, Technology and Things That Go Boink.  There will likely be some minor tweaks before filming, but here's a taste of things to come.
