Here's his youtube video. Hopefully it works! I'm going to go back and fix up his paint job, add more hair down his back, etc. His controller uses bicycle brake cables, and I've been having problems with them getting kinked/bent up near the controller. So I ordered some airplane push cable to see how well that works out.

 

Looks good in action! You'll have to let us know if you like the airplane controller cable better the the bike cable.

Works really well. Congratulations. I particularly like how the tongue pokes out when the mouth opens. How did you do that? Great neck movement too. Does it take a lot to coordinate various cables at once?

Sure! Controlling them all at once isn't too hard. I'm embarrassed to put up a picture of the controller. It's literally a piece of crap, and I'm going to be refining the design a lot and rebuilding it with stuff that's not garbage (this is what happens when you're a single mom on limited income, haha). It's basically a joystick. The top view picture of the dragon it's covered with a black sock, and that's mostly for the puppeteer's safety so they don't accidentally slit their wrist on the soup can lid.

The tongue and jaw are controlled by a dowel/push button on top that operates a push cable with the tongue on the end.

Hey don't be embarrassed.   We all work with what we have and I am always impressed when people can do that. Some times it is best to work it out and get it working with materials that don't cost an arm and a leg. You can always re work it down the line with different materials if finances permit.  I do think I might wrap the edges of the soup can lid in some duck tape though so that it was not a sharp edge.

Very neat - I too liked the tongue sticking out, it looked very realistic in terms of movement.

yeah. it totally works for me. Like Shawn says, just a bit of protective duct tape for safety sake. But next version will be even better.
